This is a digitally hand drawn illustration featuring Krampus, the popular mythical creature often celebrated in Austria, Germany & Slovenia folklore. Counterpart to Santa Claus at Christmas time, this demon punishes naughty children by whipping them with birch branches or his chains and carries them away in a basket or sack. The ringing of bells and clanking of his chains announce his terrifying arrival on Dec 6th, Krampus Nacht or Krampus Night. Some say the chains shackled to his wrists represents his enslavement to Saint Nicholas who accompanies him creating balance of the dark and light.
